If you live in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain or Oman and need a UAE visa quickly, SmartGo E-Visa’s express processing takes 24 hours, counted from a complete application; weekends and public holidays are not included. That compares with 2–3 working days for normal processing. Express speeds up how fast your application is prepared and submitted; the approval itself is decided by UAE immigration (GDRFA in Dubai or ICP for the other emirates), and that decision isn’t something we control. You still have to meet the usual rules: an eligible profession, a GCC residence permit valid for at least one year, and a passport valid for at least six months.
Start an express application, or check the points below first so the 24 hours isn’t wasted.
Normal vs express processing at a glance
| Normal | Express | |
|---|---|---|
| Our processing time | 2–3 working days | 24 hours, counted from a complete application; weekends and public holidays are not included |
| Who decides approval | UAE immigration (GDRFA or ICP) | UAE immigration (GDRFA or ICP) |
| Eligibility rules | Same | Same |
| Best for | Trips more than a few days away | Trips in the next few days, or a fixed date you can’t move |
Express changes the speed, not the rules or your chances. An application that would be refused on normal processing will be refused on express too.
When express processing makes sense
- Your trip is only a few days away and normal processing would leave little or no margin.
- You’ve booked things you can’t move, such as non-refundable flights, a hotel, a wedding, a conference or a medical appointment.
- You’re applying late in the week. Weekends and public holidays aren’t counted in the 24 hours, so an application submitted late in the week may complete after the weekend. Apply earlier in the week if you can.
- A previous application was refused and you need to reapply with corrected details without losing more time. See how to reapply after a UAE visa rejection.
- The whole family is on one booking, so one late visa would hold everyone back.
When you can skip it
- Your trip is more than a week or two away. Normal processing (2–3 working days) leaves plenty of time.
- You don’t have all your documents yet. Speed doesn’t help an incomplete file, so gather everything first.
- Your travel dates aren’t confirmed. The visa has to be used within its validity period, so applying too early with uncertain dates can waste it.
What “24 hours” actually means
Our 24 hours are counted from a complete application; weekends and public holidays are not included, so the clock pauses over both and resumes afterwards. They cover the part we control: checking your documents and submitting the application to UAE immigration as a priority. Three things are outside that:
1. The decision belongs to immigration
GDRFA and ICP review and approve every application. Their online services accept applications 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (GDRFA), but a case that needs extra checks can take longer, and no private service can speed that up. Official authorities publish their own processing times on their service pages, and the immigration decision itself isn’t something we control.
2. Weekends and public holidays
Our express clock pauses over weekends and public holidays, so an application submitted late in the week or just before a public holiday may complete after it. If your trip falls around a busy period such as Eid, apply as early as you can, because the timing of the immigration decision is set by the authority, not by us.
3. Waiting for your reply
The 24 hours start from a complete application. If a document is unclear or missing, we’ll message you, and the clock starts once we have everything, so keep your phone and email close after you apply.
Check you’re eligible before paying for speed
Express doesn’t change who can get the UAE visa for GCC residents, and the visa must be obtained before you arrive (u.ae). The official conditions are:
- A valid GCC residence permit with at least one year left. ICP requires a residence permit “for a period of no less than one year” (ICP Services Guide 2024, p. 92), and the UAE government portal says it must be valid for at least one year from your arrival date (u.ae).
- An approved profession. GDRFA says “the applicant’s profession must fall within the list of professions approved for the issuance of the visa, subject to assessment by the competent authority” (GDRFA). ICP describes eligible applicants as authorised categories or skilled workers at levels one, two or three (ICP). See our guide to eligible professions for the UAE GCC resident visa.
- A passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date (u.ae).
- No restriction on entering the UAE (GDRFA).
Once issued, the GCC resident visa allows a stay of 30 days, and the issuing authority may extend it once for the same period (ICP).
Not eligible? If your profession isn’t accepted, a standard UAE tourist visa based on your nationality may work instead, and we offer express on that too through our sister site evisa.smart-goev.ae. If you hold a valid US or Schengen visa or residency, you can apply through visaonline.smart-goev.ae, which accepts applications from all nationalities. Approval is decided by UAE immigration under its published rules. Both are part of the same private service.
What to have ready so express isn’t delayed
- A clear copy of your passport’s first and last pages.
- A recent passport-size colour photo.
- A clear copy of both sides of your GCC residence permit. A phone photo is fine if it’s sharp and all four corners show.
- Your residence permit’s issue and expiry dates.
- Your mother’s full name.
- Your address in your GCC country of residence.
- For some nationalities (Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran), a copy of your national ID as well.
Before you submit, check your name and passport number letter by letter against your passport. A typo is one of the easiest ways to lose a day. More tips are in 10 common mistakes in GCC e-visa applications.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a UAE visa in 24 hours as a GCC resident?
Our express processing takes 24 hours, counted from a complete application; weekends and public holidays are not included, so an application submitted late in the week or just before a public holiday may complete after it. UAE immigration decides on every application, and that decision isn’t something we control, so some take longer, for example when extra checks are needed. We can’t guarantee approval or an exact delivery time.
Does express processing improve my chance of approval?
No. Express only changes how quickly your application is handled. Approval depends on meeting the official rules, including an approved profession, a residence permit valid for at least a year and a passport valid for six months.
Can I get a same-day UAE visa?
We don’t offer same-day visas. Our fastest option is express, at 24 hours, counted from a complete application; weekends and public holidays are not included. Be careful of any service that guarantees a same-day decision, because no private service controls UAE immigration’s timing.
Do GCC residents get a visa on arrival in the UAE?
No. The UAE government portal says GCC residents and their companions must apply online and get the visa before arriving in the UAE. If your trip is soon, apply with express processing as early as possible rather than counting on getting one at the airport.
What if my express application isn’t approved in time?
We’ll keep you updated, and you can check progress on our tracking page. If immigration refuses the application, our fees aren’t refunded, so check eligibility before you apply. You can reapply with corrected details if the reason can be fixed.
Is express available for dependents and housemaids?
Yes. Express can be selected at checkout for family members, housemaids and other domestic workers too. Their own rules still apply: for example, a domestic worker travelling with a GCC national needs the sponsor to travel with them. See our UAE visa for housemaids guide.
